What is a “U” space?

A U space is sometimes also referred to as a Rack Unit or RU and is a method of measuring equipment racks or servers. As per principal one single U space is equal to 1.75 inches. Considering a standard 19 inches server rack; the hole spacing is cut into sets of three holes. This set of three holes can be defined as one U space.
